Doc Lawrence explores the path to true happiness..
Happiness, there is a way
Never let a once in a lifetime opportunity go by, my father taught me. Yes, a few people who have the opportunity to work together can make life happier, create some smiles and reach into the hearts of total strangers.
“Work like you don’t need the money. Love like you’ve never been hurt. Dance like nobody’s watching.” These words from the baseball great Satchel Paige are on the wall beside my keyboard. There’s hope, perseverance and faith embedded in such wisdom, a bit of a challenge and a reminder bundled into a short paragraph. There’s also more than a hint of obligation to do your best and do it from within, because it’s what you love to do.
Good food from good people. The wines of the Hill Country of Texas and beyond connect us to the earliest days of civilization. To celebrations of the newborn, weddings, welcoming a New Year, even christening the launch of a new ship. Friendship, hospitality and joie de vivres are part of the barbeque, backyard grilling, casual dinners and yes, tailgating. These are things we do that distinguish us as Americans. We work hard, play well and love to share.
