I absolutely LOVE to interview people. I make a point to show up without doing any research on the subject and let the collective spirit between us write the article: I am after the heart – not the accomplishments. As I entered the WOAI studios and was graciously greeted by “Beamer” (as he likes to be called) I was glad I stuck to my usual protocol. The Emmy winning newscaster is considered the number one news anchor on TV in San Antonio. I had absolutely no pre-conceived ideas regarding
the depth of character or the un-seen personality of this multi-talented man. I have been in the entertainment industry for 30 years and have seen it all. You have the Lindsay Lohans of the world, the Madonnas (with the prima Donna’ attitudes) and then you just happen to run into a great human being – which is exactly what happened to me that day! I often think of the word celebrity and what power it holds. In actuality, very few people ever reach that status and the ones that do, usually make it about themselves – and that is definitely NOT Beamer! What struck me the most about this accomplished TV personality and news anchor is his amazing level of humility, his dedication to service and huge heart for his fellow man – which is hardly the expected persona of a TV celebrity!
As we sat down to visit, Beamer reminded me that he probably had about “Ten words to contribute to any article” and he was
adamant it should not be about him! He wanted no special recognition or grandiose statements about his accomplishments, etc. I assured him I was not interested in all the “fluff.” I wanted to find out who he truly is, and what is in that huge heart of his!
After a quick photo-shoot in the studio, I sat down to one of the most interesting interviews I have ever experienced. This was a very different kind of interview because it truly was conducted between two reporters who LOVED to report on people’s stories.
We shared some of our past experiences and steered each other towards exciting opportunities in reporting and finding that one…great…story! Both of us love people and want to tell stories that promote the community to thrive. A great story is meant to inspire people to be the best they can be. To make a difference in the world, you have to BE the difference! In Beamer, I discovered that statement manifested in his everyday life as WOAI’s top news anchor. He is a dedicated professional with a heart of gold and absolutely no ego at all. If there is one personal quality that is paramount to our readers, it’s that Beamer is absolutely here for YOU! He loves San Antonio and tirelessly devotes most of his spare time to community service. He is the father of four great kids, and is obviously one of the greatest attributes a city could ever want. The Beamer I got to know is charming, intelligent, devoted, funny; has a dry, charming wit, and is truly grateful. He is grateful for his job, his country, and is extremely proud to work for WOAI.
In a world riddled with mediocrity, I am proud to present a real gentleman, with a real heart, for real people. This article will reveal a candid, informal Beamer and will leave you knowing you have a new and true friend. As you get to know San Antonio’s favorite newscaster, you will discover a dedicated professional fueled by a passion for reporting and anchoring what has
defined his destiny. Simply put, Beamer has definitely left his mark on this world. With great honor, TTW proudly presents a candid interview with San Antonio’s favorite anchorman: the passionate, dedicated and talented man we affectionately call: Beamer.
